Meet Brayden Lape, Team Blakes "Secret Weapon"
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Brayden Lape is a self-taught singer seeking for his own creative space in music through The Voice. Coming from a small town in Michigan, this 15-year-old is gunning to prove everyone that he is indeed Blake Shelton’s “secret weapon.” Let’s get to know him more.
What Made Brayden Lape Audition in The Voice?
Singing, let alone joining The Voice, is something unexpected for Brayden. For those who may not know, he is a three-sport standout at his small-town high school in Grass Lake, Michigan. In school he plays football, basketball, and baseball. His interest in music began amid the pandemic as a way to cure his boredom.
“I started to learn how to play the guitar watching YouTube,” he said. “Soon after I started singing in front of my family, then soon my friends.”
Prior to his Blind Audition, Brayden had only played five small gigs, the biggest being in the Sunflower Fest at a local apple orchard. Thomas Rhett, Brett Young, Noah Schnacky, and Shawn Mendes are his current music inspirations. Brayden decided to audition in The Voice after his mom convinced him to sign up.
Brayden wasn’t considered an extraordinary auditionee after performing “This Town” by Niall Horan. However, his tone radiated quality which Camila Cabello believes to be something Shelton can nurture.
He’s Now on His Way to The Live Playoffs
Shelton was both hesitant and convinced to turn his chair for for the 15 year-old. Such moment fully assured the coach that he made the right decision.
During the Battle Rounds, he competed against Benny Weag to perform Parker McCollum’s “Pretty Heart.” Subsequently, Shelton kept him on his team. In the Knockouts, he blew everyone away with in emotional performance of “Mercy” by Brett Young.
“Brayden’s just got all this potential and star quality about what he does and just who he is,” Shelton said. “He’s just now starting to find his feet and as he gets comfortable in this situation, sky’s gonna be the limit.”
With how promising Brayden is as a young artist, Shelton might as well thank Cabello for pushing him to press his button. Now, he’s going to the Live Playoffs which kicks off on Monday, November 14. This stage of the competition allows viewers to vote for the artist they want to stay in the competition.
