Biz vets bow Karlin-Green Media

Bjorck Film execs buy co., founder to remain as consultant

HOLLYWOOD — Bjorck Film Corp., a distribution consultancy founded by Lennart Bjorck in 1977, has been bought by company president Penny Karlin and VP Kelly Green, who will form Karlin-Green Media. Bjorck will stay on as a consultant.

Karlin, who joined Bjorck Film in 1996 as prexy, and Green, who has been with the company since 1989, will be equal partners in the company and share co-president titles.

Based in L.A., Karlin-Green will continue to represent foreign distributors, and plans to expand and diversify the company to incorporate the U.S. market and introduce U.S. producers to international buyers to help raise financing for features. It reps such distribs as Shochiku in Japan, Splendid (Germany), MediaFilm (Italy), Manga Films (Spain), Gussi (Mexico), Lider Films (Argentina), Grupo Paris Filmes (Brazil), Spentzos Films (Greece), Entertainment Consortium (Latin America), Italia Film (the Middle East) and Vision Film (Poland).

Recent projects in which the company has been involved include the Michelle Pfeiffer and Sean Penn starrer “I am Sam,” from New Line; Martin Scorsese’s epic crime drama “Gangs of New York,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz; Lasse Hallstrom’s “The Shipping News,” with Kevin Spacey and Julianne Moore; “Four Feathers,” featuring Kate Hudson; “A View From the Top,” starring Gwyneth Paltrow; and “Spy Kids” and “Scary Movie 2,” from Miramax Intl.

“This is a natural progression for us as we know and have learned over the years what genres and what films play well in certain territories, and it makes sense to utilize this knowledge and expand our services to include filmmakers and introduce them to distributors in order to provide the necessary funding,” said Karlin.

Green added: “With our expertise, we can engineer co-productions and financing arrangements for budgets anywhere from $18 million and up for commercial mainstream films.”

Prior to joining Bjorck, Karlin was president and partner at Blue Ridge Entertainment, an indie production and distribution company. She was also senior VP, international, at Trimark Pictures and president of Hemdale Film Sales.

Green joined Bjorck Film in 1989 as office manager and was promoted to VP of acquisitions in 1995.
